Aromatherapy- The Traditional Way To Rejuvenate Your Body And Mind

When you are having a very stressful day and suddenly someone lights up an incense stick, you start feeling very relaxed. This process of attaining relaxation through smell is called Aromatherapy, which has been proven beneficial for both the mind and the body for ages.

Aromatherapy is one of the most traditional ways of reducing stress, anxiety, and physical pain. It has made impeccable advancements with time and has reached to the heights of maximum success rate. This therapy, as the name suggests is a treatment that focuses on the smell receptors.

We all love the smell of wilderness when we travel. If you ever observe closely, the smell of flowers, trees, and even a gurgling brook makes your soul alive and relaxed. And in Aromatherapy, all these aromas are collected in the form of essential oils and put into use. The oils can be breathed or applied directly to the skin through massages and baths.

The Effects of Aromatherapy-

  • When you inhale the oil, the smell receptors absorb the aroma and transfer it to the brain.

  • This aroma activates the Limbic system of the brain which plays a vital role in controlling the emotions.

  • It also affects the hypothalamus hence increasing the level of serotonin.

  • While applied on skin it creates ripple effects all over the body which has the potential to ease pains.

Uses of Aromatherapy-

  • Aromatherapy can be used to fight against stress, anxiety, and depression.

  • It helps in insomnia by promising a peaceful sleep.

  • It is used in various cases of dementia to take care of the mental pain and the immense amount of stress.

  • Aromatherapy has never failed to boost the relaxation process.

  • On the skin, it helps to fight bacteria.

  • This therapy is also used for patients going through cancer treatment to ease off the side effects of the treatment.

Safety-

While Aromatherapy is very safe to practice, few things should always be remembered-

  • Get aromatherapy only from a professional.

  • Always buy original essential oils.

  • Women who are pregnant or nursing should only use aromatherapy after getting medical approval for it.

  • Do not swallow any oil before consulting your doctor about it.

  • Do an allergy taste before putting the oil on your skin.
