It Is Okay To Feel Low



Sometimes we just feel low, without any particular reasons. We try to find out those reasons but the brain seems to be numb. I have many times faced this and I still face it. No matter how prepared I feel before, sometimes it just takes the smallest of the details to make me feel low. I am sure many of you also go through this, some more than others. When people ask you why you are low and you don’t have an answer ready they start feeling that maybe you are being over dramatic or faking all of it.

While this feeling of lowness can come from deep-rooted mental health problems, all the time it is not necessary that just because you feel low you are having mental imbalance. But there are some ways through which you can mend your mood or at least try.

  • Music-

I have given music a top priority whenever I start feeling low. There have been instances when I am in the middle of a crowd and I can feel my mood dropping down to an endless retreat. These are the times when music brings me back to reality. I prefer listening to slow jazz or instrumental music. But you can always choose your kind of music because it contains sound waves which will sure to bring up that smile on your face again.

  • Food-

Food is another thing which makes me tremendously happy, every time. I like indulging in foods that I can relish; sometimes I even enter the kitchen and make my own food. Even when I am on a diet, during those low days food comforts me like my mother’s warm hug. I eat whatever I feel like eating, be it junk food, chocolate overload cake, or just some delicious homemade varieties. This is very different from stress eating, and being a person who has experienced both I can assure you that good food is equal to a good mood.

  • Communication-

Sometimes when we are low, we avoid talking to people, afraid of the fact that what if they see what we are feeling inside. But let me ask you something, why do you care if people judge you by the emotions you are showing? You need to let your emotions out; there will be someone or the other who is waiting just to hear all these from you. And even if there is no one, write it down. Pour all these emotions out in a piece of paper; you will see how relaxed you feel.

  • Activities

When you are feeling low indulge in activities you desire. I will tell you a secret; when you are low that is the time you do your best works. If you like to paint, then grab those brushes, and randomly start drawing something, show your emotions through your creativity. If you like sports then try something new out, go for an adventure sport. When you do things that you love to do, your body automatically picks up the pace.


In the end, I just want to tell, whoever is reading this, that feeling low is okay. It is normal human behavior. You don’t need to isolate yourself when you are feeling like that. You just have to understand that you are a wonderful creation of god and you are allowed to relax and keep yourself happy. Don’t spend your full life thinking about others, there are times when you need to think about yourself and love yourself for the person you are. As Katy Perry says "Cause baby you're a firework; Come on, show 'em what you're worth."
