While the current situation of COVID 19 prevails worldwide, people are inclining towards working the sweat out in their home comfort, which includes yoga to aerobic exercises like Zumba. Apart from the horrific scenario of physical damages, the situation has also given birth to mental instability. Hence, to cut off this monotonous life, individuals are trying to keep themselves busy with various kinds of hobbies, most of which consist of physical activity.

Aerobic exercises like Zumba can also be called as a boost of creativity. It stimulates the Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), which is the process of formation of new brain cells. In this segment, Zumba has been proven to have a benign positive effect on the neurological system of the body.

Advantages of “do at home” Zumba-

  • Zumba doesn’t feel like a punishment-

For some individuals, daily work out can be something very detrimental and they don't want to go for that. Work out like sculpting can have intense effects on your body making your muscles scream from all the nooks and corners when you are trying to relax. But with Zumba the work out does not only isolate to muscles, your full body is working out and moving around which doesn’t feel much hard compared to other toning exercises. In this way, you tend to do more than you have done with other forms of work out.

  • Zumba includes both music therapy and dance therapy-

Zumba includes both music and dance, which are the two best remedies for stress. The upbeat music of Zumba offers music therapy which affects all the senses of an individual and has a very strong impact on the person’s cognitive, physical, and emotional functioning. The swift but steady movements of Zumba offer a hand in dance therapy which has been proven to be the best solution to increase muscle strength, reduce depression, and enhancing coordination and balance in the body.

  • Mixing and matching-

Zumba can be mixed and matched with other forms of exercises like high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and can also be done with weights for more effectivity.

  • Zumba helps to improve cardiovascular health-

According to an article in the Journal of Sport and Health, Zumba results in much higher heart rate responses, which means that you can dance your way out of heart diseases, high blood pressure, and bad cholesterol.

  • Choosing the rhythm and moves-

The best thing with Zumba is that you can choose any upbeat songs, and even modify your moves according to the rhythm. And before you know you will see how much you are enjoying it. It creates a very positive vibe and relaxes your mood. It’s a fun activity and anyone irrespective of weight, age and gender can participate in this particular dance exercise.

Things to remember before stepping on the floor-

Like all the other workouts, the perks of Zumba comes with a set of guidelines,

  • Comfortable attire is a must for this dance exercise because if your attire is sticking too much with your body you can easily feel breathless and on the other hand, if it’s too loose you can trip and fall.

  • Zumba can be a very tiring exercise, so rather than pushing yourself from day one, it is always better to take things slowly and start with two to three classes per week. Afterward, according to your stamina and necessity, you can decrease the class intervals.

  • Zumba uses up a lot of energy and if you are empty stomach you can have the possibility of getting brain fog. So it’s always better to eat something light like fruits or nuts before you start the session.

  • Drink water 20 mins prior you start doing Zumba and keep on drinking very small portions during breaks.

  • If you have a medical condition then consult your doctor first.

Keeping all these points in mind, Zumba can be your favorite activity as well as a mode of relaxation. Various online courses are teaching Zumba during this lockdown, which is easily accessible. And in the last, the motto should always be to become fitter both physically and mentally.
