The Story of a Young Jewelry Artist, Olivia Murthy

Creativity comes from the deepest desires of the heart. A creator is a person who stands strong on his or her viewpoints of the creation and understands that criticisms are a part of the glory and pride. With the same trail of thoughts, a 21-year-old girl is on a journey to be one of the best jewelry artists, our generation has ever known.

Olivia Murthy, a college-going student from Pune, India, saw the world in a bit different way. Since her childhood, she wanted to capture the finer details of this world with the lenses of a camera. Her dream was already making a statement when she remembered her mother’s passion for creating jewelry.

A student of history major (Wadia College, Pune), Olivia is a Roman Catholic who calls herself a picky eater but has a separate love for homemade fast foods. The biggest support of her career has come from her mother, Cynthia Murthy. In 2018 with her mother supporting her dreams, Olivia started creating her first pieces of jewelry, which represents her impeccable craftsmanship.

The idea was to make the young adults more beautiful by adding some sugar and spice and everything nice through her jewelry collections, and she chose the perfect name for the brand- Embellish-ed. Though she first wanted to go for body jewelry, she ended up creating earrings mainly.

The designs of the pieces are so unique that it becomes tough to choose from the list. Ranging from bohemian style to pure Indian ethnic earrings, Olivia focuses on the qualitative aspect more than the quantitative one. Along with earrings, there are also anklets, bracelets, chokers, and neckpieces. Be it for a festive occasion or something light to wear to the office, she has it all.

But being a creator, she also faced lots of ups and downs, including fake clients, people opting more for brands, and last but not the least the pandemic lockdown, where for 5 months there were neither any order nor any raw materials for new pieces. Still, the girl never lost hope because she is lead by her heart and not by the profit she makes. Her jewelry collections have exceptional detailing and won’t burn a hole in your pocket.

When I got to know about what milestones she has achieved in such a young age, Robert Frost’s poem started echoing in my mind-

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.”
