The Story Of Apurva Malhotra- Spreading Light In Times Of Darkness

While the world is getting engulfed in darkness and life is becoming monotonous, a 24-year old girl from Delhi, India decided to spread some joy and light through her scented candles. I doubt there is one person in this world who doesn’t like scented candles. That tiny flicker of light and the mind soothing fragrances have the reputation of being the best mood setters.

Apurva Malhotra, a student of counseling psychology has big dreams and she is determined enough to make those dreams come true. “Life is rough, but I am happy,” says Apurva whose two main weaknesses are sushi and sticky rice. In this lockdown she wanted to try out something new, hence she took up candle making as a hobby. While in the start she was a bit skeptical but then immense support from her family which includes her mother, father, elder brother, and sister-in-law, planted the seed of assurance in her heart. And this led to the production of beautifully curetted candles, which not only soothes the mind but also the soul.

Her focus on details and experimenting with fragrances is what makes her candles one of a kind. She loves mixing and matching fragrances that no one has done before. Her new ideas are surely going to be in huge demand. The thing about her persona which impressed me the most was how serious she is about life and still knows how to enjoy it.

Her friends are her biggest pillar of support, she mentions Tvisha Sohum, Ashita Bablani, Anisha Kaur, Akanksha Pathania, and Diya Thakur, as the main driving power behind her success in candle making. She launched her venture on 26th October 2020 and is already facing good demands and clients from pan India. She spends nights making candles, but not alone. Her fur baby Rio is always present there to give her company.

“Psychology is passion and candle making is love”, says this 24-year-old girl, who by now has learned how to deal with the rough patches of life and how to speak her heart out. Her experimentations have made her clients fall in love with her candles. She told me an incident, where she mixed light fragrances like Sandalwood and Amber with a very strong fragrance of Tuberose and received a hearty and positive response from the client. To be honest, if I had known this before I would have surely tested this out myself.

Her candles are sure to put you in a good mood with not only their performances but their beautiful glass designs. When asked about challenges she accepted the fact that glass candles sometimes do break, but in the next second she changes her tone and said “but I am learning from these mishaps and trying not to repeat it anymore.”

For all the candle lovers out there, she is coming up with some super mysterious fragrant ideas next month which includes not only candles but bath salts and bath bombs, mainly curetted for the holiday season, carved out of love. Her candles range from 150 INR to 650 INR. So hurry up to her Instagram page, @flickerflames, and order now. She is a person who has been through a lot but still holds up her head high, which is a lesson for all of us, that even when there is darkness you will find light, you just need to search for it, not outside but in your soul.

“Do not worry if all the candles in the world flicker and die. We have the spark that starts the fire.”
