Women Vs Body Hair- A Real Rivalry

Body hair is a very normal occurrence for humans. While men are allowed to keep their natural hair growth, women on the other hand have a notion that a hairless body makes us more beautiful. And this has continued for decades, where we women have gone through painful treatments like waxing and even modern-day laser hair removal. And we have spared no parts of our body, including the sensitive ones.

Did you know even these small hairs play an important part in maintaining our body activity?

Body hair has three main functions-

  • To sustain the temperature of the body

  • Restrict foreign particles from infiltrating through our pores

  • Acting as a sense organ

But now, since the full crowd has come to believe that women should have hair only in specific parts like head, eyebrows, and eyelashes, we carry on removing the hairs. Let me tell you about my secret.

I am 25years old and I have never waxed my entire life (Yes!! You heard that right). The reason is I prefer shaving over that painful torture on my body. But then why are the salons always full of clients for waxing, if there is another easy alternative? That’s because of the myths revolving around shaving body hair. So ladies, buckle up, because I am going to debunk the myths.

Myth #1- Shaving hair results in faster, thicker, and darker hair.

Fact- The growth of your body hair entirely depends on your hormone levels. Shaving has nothing to do with your hair growth. In a few parts like armpits, hair grows faster than other body parts.

Myth #2- New blades can cut the sensitive skin of women.

Fact- There is a reason behind differentiating men grooming products and women grooming products. Products for women are made for their skin type. And dull blades on a contrary make more cuts and slashes on the skin compared to a new blade.

Myth #3- Shaving too much can cause dark skin or flaky skin.

Fact- The pigmentation of your skin again entirely depends on your tissues, blood circulation, and melanin. Shaving means you are just cutting the hair, that too not entirely from the follicles but just the upper sides. In fact, if you shave properly it also cleans up the dry skins leaving your skin smoother.

Myth #4- Shaving cream is for men.

Fact-The purpose of a shaving cream is to lock the moisture in the skin, it can be used by both the genders. Even if you don’t use shaving cream, make sure you apply lotion as soon as you are done with shaving.

Myth #5- Going south is risky.

Fact- In your bikini area, hair growth is intense, and there are reasons behind it. The dense growth protects the area from dust and dirt, it acts as a shield. Even gynecologists prescribe soft trimming or just shaving the area. Your bikini area is one of the most sensitive parts of the body. Numerous veins cross that part so just imagine how much harm it can cause you when hair is ripped out from there during waxing.

So ladies, did I surprise you? At the end of the day, your body is your own, if you want it to go through agonizing pain every month (the irony is, I am not even talking about period cramps), that’s entirely your decision. For me, shaving has always been the better option, and you are always welcome to join the club.
